Who I Am..
I am a licensed professional counselor and a spiritual director. Although these are two distinct disciplines, I see a lot of overlap. Many who seek counseling are seeking greater health and wholeness which, in my mind, is the work of the Spirit. Many who seek spiritual direction discover old wounds and emotional patterns that are obstacles to God, which can be the work of counseling.
Whether you are in the midst of a difficult time, are tired of the pain of the past, or are awakening to deeper longings within, I honor your story and treat you with respect. Rather than a medical model, I work from a model of personal growth. This means that I think of this very important work as a natural part of human life, rather than the treatment of pathology. People who work with me say that over time their perspective broadens and deepens, and they discover that this is what is most helpful for them. I love witnessing what emerges when people are given the time, tools and space to reflect on their lives!

"Life is meant to be lived from a Center, a divine Center. Each one of us can live a life of amazing power and peace and serenity, of integration and confidence and simplified multiplicity, on one condition - that is,
if we really want to."
~ Thomas Kelly, A Testament of Devotion
I am an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) and am active in the life of a local congregation and the broader church. I love reading the mystics and saints of the church, and participate in the life and leadership of several ecumenical and contemplative communities. I also enjoy teaching centering prayer and practice it in a variety of contexts with a variety of people. I have worked the 19th Annotation of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises (A Retreat in Everyday Life) and the Exercises continue to give me a workout! I have also completed the foundations course and practicum in Gestalt Pastoral Care and the Gestalt Institute of Pittsburgh's third year advanced training; Gestalt Pastoral Care is a synthesis of Gestalt growth work, healing prayer and spiritual companioning. All of these experiences are a part of who I am, and continue to shape me and my perspective and response to life.
Areas of Professional Interest...
In addition to
spirituality, I am interested in
working with individuals who are going through a time of adjustment or
life transition, having difficulty in their relationships or are
struggling with self worth, guilt, shame, forgiveness, sadness, fear,
stress, grief or loss. I also appreciate the opportunity to support individuals who are working a program of recovery, and to help guide family members who may be confused, hurt or lack information about addiction.
